Open an MPP file online, free
Someone sent you an .mpp and you do not have Microsoft Project. Upload it here and the plan opens in your browser — tasks, dates, dependencies and the Gantt bars.
Drop the file
From your computer or your phone
We render it
On our server, so nothing installs on yours
You read it
And your copy is deleted when you close it
Read the whole plan without owning Project
You need one date, one owner or one dependency out of a file you will read once. Buying a licence to answer that is the wrong trade, and a screenshot from whoever sent it is never the part you needed.
The viewer reads the schedule the way Project stored it, so summary tasks, subtasks and the links between them arrive with their structure intact instead of flattened into an image. Nothing installs, and there is no account to create first.
If your plan is over 20 MB, the usual reason is embedded documents and images rather than the schedule itself; saving a copy from Project without them brings most files under the limit. Plans exported as .mpx open here too, at the same size.
Read the task outline
Summary tasks, subtasks, milestones and the links between them, at the indent levels the plan was built with.
See the Gantt chart
Bars drawn against the timescale, so you can see what runs in parallel and where each phase ends.
Check who is assigned
The resource list and the assignments behind each task — names, roles and the work allocated to them.
Your file is deleted
The upload is removed once you are done, so budgets, day rates and client names in the plan do not sit on a server afterwards.
Find a task by name
Type part of a task or resource name to jump to it, instead of scrolling a plan that runs to several hundred rows.
Print a copy for the meeting
Send the task list or the timeline to your printer from the browser, for the people in the room who do not have Project either.
An .mpp file is a scheduling database rather than a document. It holds the task outline, the start and finish dates, the links between tasks, the resource assignments and the calendar the whole plan is calculated against. That is why nothing already on your computer opens it: Microsoft Project is a paid desktop application, and Microsoft has never shipped a free reader for the files it writes.
Upload yours above and it renders as a page you can read. The task hierarchy keeps its indent levels, the bars sit against the timescale with their durations, and each task shows who is assigned to it. You can page through the plan, zoom, search for a task or a person by name, and print what you need. Two extensions are accepted, .mpp and .mpx, at up to 20 MB each.
Your file is deleted after you finish viewing it, which matters more here than on most formats: a project plan usually carries client names, internal dates and day rates. If you need to open Project files inside software you are building rather than one at a time, the same rendering engine is sold as the Doconut SDK.
Which Project files open here
Microsoft Project writes plans in two shapes, and both upload the same way.
Microsoft Project Plan (.MPP) and Project Exchange (.MPX)
An .mpp is the binary file Project saves by default: tasks, calendars, dependencies, resource assignments and the dates calculated from them. An .mpx is the older plain-text form of the same plan, written by earlier versions of Project and still exported by several planning tools. Both render here; both are capped at 20 MB. Project template files (.mpt) are not accepted.

Is it safe to view my Microsoft Project document online?
The upload travels over HTTPS, and your Microsoft Project file is reachable only through a random identifier your browser holds and nothing links to. It is deleted once you have viewed it, which is the part that matters most.
Does Doconut store uploaded Microsoft Project files?
It's important to note that we do not store uploaded Microsoft Project files after processing. It gets deleted as soon as it is viewed. You are requested to avoid uploading invalid format, corrupt or infected documents here.
Are there any limits to using Doconut.app to view Microsoft Project files?
One Microsoft Project file at a time, up to 20MB. That ceiling is set per format, so another viewer here may take more or less than this page does.
PUT PROJECT RENDERING INSIDE YOUR OWN APP
The engine that draws these plans is available as the Doconut SDK — 75 extensions across 18 families, running on your servers instead of ours.
