Why these six are the awkward formats
RTF is the clearest case. Windows removed WordPad in 2024, so a clean install has no default application for it at all — double-clicking an .rtf now gets you a file picker, or Word, if you own Word.
XPS is the second. Microsoft's own answer to PDF ships with no viewer of its own: since Windows 10 version 1803 the XPS Viewer has been an optional feature you have to go and add. MHTML is the third — a complete saved web page, markup and styles and images folded into a single file, which Firefox has never opened.
TXT, XML and HTML have the opposite problem. They open anywhere and read badly nearly everywhere: raw tags in a browser tab, or one unbroken line in a plain editor. All six open here up to 5 MB, and size is what a refused upload almost always comes down to — a long XML export or a log file is usually the one that crosses it.
Zoom and page through
Scale the type up when the original was set at eight points, and move a page at a time instead of scrolling.
Find a word
Search inside the file you are looking at, rather than scrolling a 300-page RTF for one name.
Six text formats
TXT, RTF, XML, HTML, MHTML and XPS, at up to 5 MB each.
Deleted after viewing
Your upload is removed once you are done with it, so nothing is left on a server to think about later.
Print from the browser
Send an RTF or an XPS to a printer on a machine that has no application for either one.
Read, not edit
A reading pane and nothing else. Nothing here can alter the file you uploaded.
You have a text file and the machine in front of you has nothing that opens it. Drop it on this page instead: .txt, .rtf, .xml, .html, .mhtml and .xps all render in the browser, at up to 5 MB each, with nothing to install.
What you get back depends on the format. RTF keeps its fonts, tables and images. XPS keeps its page breaks, since the format exists to pin a layout down the way PDF does. Plain text and XML show you what is actually in the file, tags and all, rather than what an editor decided to render. From there you can page through the document, zoom, search for a word and send it to a printer.
Your file is deleted after viewing, which matters less for a shopping list than for a contract draft or a configuration export. The rest of the site opens 70+ extensions the same way, so the PDF attached to the same email is one page away. And when what you need is this rendering inside your own application rather than in a browser tab, that is the Doconut SDK: 75 extensions, on your own server.

Two that Windows stopped opening on its own, one that Firefox never opened, and three that open anywhere and read badly.

Is it safe to view my Text document online?
The upload travels over HTTPS, and your Text file is reachable only through a random identifier your browser holds and nothing links to. It is deleted once you have viewed it, which is the part that matters most.
Does Doconut store uploaded Text files?
It's important to note that we do not store uploaded Text files after processing. It gets deleted as soon as it is viewed. You are requested to avoid uploading invalid format, corrupt or infected documents here.
Are there any limits to using Doconut.app to view Text files?
One Text file at a time, up to 5MB. That ceiling is set per format, so another viewer here may take more or less than this page does.
PUT THIS VIEWER INSIDE YOUR OWN APP
The same rendering as a .NET component you host yourself: 75 extensions, and documents that never leave your server.
