What happens when you upload a PSD

Nothing that ships with Windows or macOS opens a PSD properly. This page does: upload the file and it renders in the browser at full canvas size, with no account and nothing to install.

What you see is the composite Photoshop wrote when the file was saved, so blend modes, layer opacity and masks look the way the designer left them, and adjustment layers are already baked in rather than dropped. Hidden layers stay hidden.

CMYK and grayscale documents are converted to RGB, because that is what a browser can display. The embedded ICC profile is applied during the conversion, so the colors stay close to the original instead of shifting.

Your upload is deleted after viewing, which is what counts if the file is client work under NDA or a campaign that has not launched. No account, no gallery, no copy kept for later.

Layers as saved

Blend modes, masks, layer opacity and adjustment layers all render the way Photoshop wrote them.

Color you can judge

CMYK and grayscale files are converted to RGB for the browser with the embedded ICC profile applied.

Big canvases handled

Compositing happens on our side, so a 25 MB file with dozens of layers is never assembled by your laptop.

Deleted after viewing

Your PSD is removed once you are done. Nothing to clean up later, because nothing is kept.

A PSD is Photoshop's working file, not a picture. Inside it are layers, masks, adjustment layers, editable type and often a CMYK color space, which is why double-clicking one on a machine without Photoshop gets you an icon and nothing else. Windows shows no preview, macOS opens a flattened version at best, and the free editors that do read PSD want an install first.

Upload it here instead and you see the composed artwork: layer order, opacity, blend modes and masks applied the way Photoshop saved them, hidden layers still hidden. You do not need the fonts the designer used, because type was rasterized into the saved composite before the file ever left their machine. Zoom in to check a crop or read the small print, then close the tab — your file is deleted after viewing, which is the part that matters when the work has not shipped yet.

Two things stop a PSD from opening here. The first is size: the limit is 25 MB, and print work at 300 dpi passes that easily, so if your file is over, ask whoever sent it for a flattened PNG. The second is quieter. Photoshop has a setting called Maximize Compatibility that decides whether a flattened composite is written alongside the layer data; with it off, readers other than Photoshop have little to show, and a preview that comes back blank or oddly incomplete is usually this. PSB, the large-document format, is a different container and is refused at upload. If what you were sent turns out to be a TIFF or an EPS, those open in the advanced image viewer here.

What this page accepts

One extension: PSD, up to 25 MB.

.PSD

Adobe Photoshop Document — the layered file Photoshop saves by default

Mockups, retouching, packaging artwork and UI comps all arrive as PSD. The file you upload is rendered, never modified, and PSB, the large-document version, is a separate container this page does not read.

Is it safe to view my PSD document online?

The upload travels over HTTPS, and your PSD file is reachable only through a random identifier your browser holds and nothing links to. It is deleted once you have viewed it, which is the part that matters most.

Does Doconut store uploaded PSD files?

It's important to note that we do not store uploaded PSD files after processing. It gets deleted as soon as it is viewed. You are requested to avoid uploading invalid format, corrupt or infected documents here.

Are there any limits to using Doconut.app to view PSD files?

One PSD file at a time, up to 25MB. That ceiling is set per format, so another viewer here may take more or less than this page does.
